OIE and G7 continue to discuss antimicrobial resistance whilst Finland publishes latest usage data

AMR and prudent use of veterinary antimicrobials continue to dominate discussion relating to the veterinary sector, with news from OIE and G7, whilst Finland has published data showing a slight increase in usage in 2014:

  • At the 84th General Session of the World Assembly of National Delegates, the OIE presented to its Members, and proposed for adoption, the basic principles of its new strategy to fight antimicrobial resistance (Link).

  • IFAH-Europe has welcomed the G7 declaration of current thinking on AMR and urged a holistic ‘One Health’ approach, with a focus on co-operation between the human and veterinary sectors, and promoting R&D (Link).

  • Meanwhile, total sales of veterinary antimicrobials in Finland increased by two per cent in 2014 (Link).
